Senator Tommy Tuberville opted to call Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger a “communist,” ahead of the governor’s response to President Trump’s State of the Union Address.
“She ain’t moderate, she’s a communist. I mean, look at what she’s doing. She’s ruining her state. That’s fine, let her do what she wants to. They elected her, but I want to hear her. I want to hear a moderate speech from a governor that ran moderate, but turned into a communist the very first day she was elected,” Tuberville said.
Spanberger’s address, which followed Trump’s one hour and 50 minute speech, focused primarily on claiming Trump’s policies have made life for expensive for working-class American families, the controversy surrounding the release of the Epstein files, and the actions of ICE.
“Is the president working to make life more affordable for you and your family? Is the president working to keep Americans safe, both at home and abroad? Is the president working for you?.” she asked rhetorically.
Tuberville, a long-time defender of Trump and his policies, doubled down by calling Spanberger’s policies “anti-American and COMMUNIST” following the Democratic governor’s speech Tuesday night.
Tuberville, who is running for Alabama governor, posted on X throughout Trump’s speech, echoing the president’s stances on national security, voter ID laws, and secure elections.
Tuberville recently overcame questions surrounding his own eligibility to run for governor. Ken McFeeters, who is running against Tuberville for the Republican nomination, claimed the senator resides in Florida instead of Auburn, Alabama. The Alabama GOP dismissed McFeeters’ challenger earlier this month.
