Tuberville Secures Key Wins for Alabama in Senate Funding Package

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) announced several key wins he secured for Alabama in the U.S. Senate’s funding package covering the Veterans Affairs and Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, legislative branch operations, military construction, and rural development.

First, Sen. Tuberville secured an amendment to require periodic reporting from the VA on how the department uses staffing models to prioritize timely and quality care and benefits. This follows the Biden administration’s disastrous decision to rehire VA employees who were fired for negligence of duty and the direction of VA employees to process care for illegal immigrants. Sen. Tuberville’s amendment will create greater transparency from the VA and ultimately help ensure the Department is delivering swift, timely care for America’s veterans.

“As the son of a World War II veteran, I have seen firsthand the critical role the VA plays in caring for those who have served our country. Sadly, the VA under Joe Biden’s leadership was a complete disaster. Thank God President Trump and Secretary Collins are in charge now. They’re working around the clock to right-size the VA. The Trump administration is singularly focused on making sure veterans have timely access to quality care and benefits. We need to support Secretary Collins and this administration in achieving these core goals for our veterans – not waste our time playing politics.”

Second, Sen. Tuberville secured an amendment that increases the USDA’s Rural Water and Waste Disposal Program Account by $1.5 million for construction and updating decentralized wastewater systems. This will help promote water and wastewater safety in rural areas, including Alabama’s Black Belt region.

Sen. Tuberville made the following statement about this amendment’s passage:

“Everyone deserves access to equal water and wastewater, regardless of their zip code. Proud to have my amendment to support decentralized wastewater systems pass the Senate. This is a HUGE WIN for Alabama’s entire Black Belt region. As Alabama’s voice on the Senate Ag Committee, I’ll keep fighting to ensure that none of our rural communities are left behind.”

Additionally, Sen. Tuberville secured additional funding for the following installations in Alabama:

  • Fort Rucker: Flat Iron Support Center – $7,400,000
  • Pike Road Agriculture Job Development and Career Center – $440,000

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP and Aging Committees.
