As Democrats continue to downplay the murder of Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee, by alleged suspect Decarlos Brown in North Carolina two weeks ago, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said the tragic incident exposes the failure of their soft-on-crime policies.
Officials announced Tuesday that they would be bringing federal charges against Brown, who has a lengthy criminal history with 14 prior arrests since 2011.
“The Democrats had no plans for four years under the Biden administration about crime. Go in the front door, go out the back,” Tuberville said Tuesday on Fox Business Network’s “The Evening Edit.” “… It’s been a disaster for four years, and now we got these judges, they don’t care about crime. They just let people go in the front door, out the back.”
Some Democrats have accused Republicans of making the issue about race, but Tuberville said it’s a deeper problem that’s been a long time coming.
“We’re paying the price for something that has been brewing for years and years and years. It’s not about racism. It’s about putting people in jail, doing the time for the crime that they commit, and if we don’t do that, we’re going to lose the streets and neighborhoods in our entire country.”
He continued, “If you go back and look at this, 65% of the criminals that are let out of jail do a crime again within five years. Sixty-five percent. So sooner or later, we’re going to have to start putting people in jail and leaving them there until they pay the price.”
As to why Democrats and the corporate media have tried to ignore the murder, Tuberville said, “The Democrats don’t want it on their record. It looks bad. They don’t care about people getting hurt… When something like this happens, they will whitewash it. They will push it to the side and try not to put it on television or do anything when it comes to the media, and it’s just sad.”
