WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in introducing the Defeat Sharia Law in America Act, which would help root out and stop the spread of Sharia Law in the U.S. by clarifying that discriminating in the provision of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations on the basis of Sharia Law is in violation of the Civil Rights Act.
“Sharia Law is not a religion; it is a death cult and has no place in this country,” said Sen. Tuberville.“People are afraid to call out Sharia Law for what it is: an ideology that calls for the killing of freedom-loving Americans. We have to take action against this poisonous ideology and protect Americans from the growing threat of Radical Islam.”
“Sharia Law is the antithesis of the rights, beliefs, and values that make Texas and America great, and we must root out and eradicate this existential threat to our way of life,” said Sen. Cornyn.“I’m introducing the Defeat Sharia Law in America Act to ensure anti-American jihadists and those who dare to try and implement Sharia Law’s hateful ideology in our freedom-loving, God-fearing communities are stopped and held accountable for their radical discrimination and flagrant violation of our Constitution.”

BACKGROUND:
The Defeat Sharia Law in America Act ensures that the Civil Rights Act’s antidiscrimination provisions apply when an establishment is trying to implement Sharia Law. The legislation would clarify that discriminating in the provision of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations on the basis of Sharia Law is discrimination and in violation of the Civil Rights Act. The bill would also prevent the private unconstitutional implementation of Sharia law by adding a rule of construction.
