Hundreds of senior U.S. military leaders stationed around the world gathered in Quantico, Va., on Tuesday for an unusual meeting called by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Joined by President Donald Trump, Hegseth declared an end to “woke” ideology in the ranks and set strict standards of excellence, calling for no more “fat generals and admirals.”
“No more identity months, DEI offices, dudes in dresses, no more climate change worship, no more division, distraction or gender delusion, no more debris. I’ve said before and will say again, we are done with that shit,” he said.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) applauded Hegseth’s speech, saying it was vital that America’s military was on the team pursuing the same goals.
“It was fun to listen to,” Tuberville said. “He’s speaking to a lot of generals and admirals that had kind of been doing their own thing. They weren’t on the team, and that’s what this whole speech was about.”
He continued, “We can’t be pulling in different directions in the military. That would be the worst thing to ever happen to us. I was glad to hear it, be fit or get out. We have dropped our standards, and it all goes back to being merit-based. I’m all for it, and have been looking forward to hearing this speech for a long time.”
