Tuberville In the News: CNS: Sen. Tuberville on V.P. Harris Saying Border Is ‘Secure:’ ‘Has She Lost Her Mind’

When asked whether Vice President Kamala Harris’s statement that the border “is secure” is true, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) asked, “Has she lost her mind?” and added, “She needs to get glasses.”

At the Capitol on September 15, CNS News asked Senator Tuberville, “On Sunday on Meet the Press, Vice President Kamala Harris said that the border is secure. Do you believe that that was a true statement?”

“Has she lost her mind?” said Tuberville. “I hope she can see. She needs to get glasses.”

The senator went on to describe his view of the current border situation.

“That thing is wide open,” he said. “I think she needs to go down there and look at it. We, as Republicans, most of us have been down there. They’re just streaming across, drowning as they come across, some of them can’t make it.”

“So, it’s sad,” he added. “They need to realize how many people are dying from this, and blood’s on their hands.”

During her Sept 11 Meet the Press interview, Chuck Todd asked Vice President Kamala Harris “would you call the border secure?”

Harris replied, “I think that there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made: pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship. The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed.”

Todd replied, “We’re going to have two million people cross this border for the first time ever. You’re confident this border’s secure?”

Harris doubled-down on her claim that the border is secure as well as her support for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

“We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration,” she said. “But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years. We also have to put into a place a law and plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship.”

“We don’t have that in place because people are playing politics in a state like this and in Congress,” she said. “By the way, you want to talk about bipartisanship on an issue that at one time was a bipartisan issue both in terms of Republican senators and even presidents.”

As CNS News has reported, during the fiscal year 2021 in which President Biden succeeded President Trump, the number of people Customs and Border Protection reported encountering was 1,734,686, compared to 458,088 in Trump’s last full fiscal year of 2020.

Between October and July, the first 10 months of this fiscal year, 2022, border patrol has reported encountering 1,946,780 people illegally crossing the border.

For the first time in recorded history, the United States is on track to have 2 million illegal border crossings by the conclusion of this fiscal year, 2022.
