ICYMI: Tuberville Joins America Reports to Preview TPUSA Event at Auburn University

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined America Reports on Fox News to preview the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event tonight at Auburn University. Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Sen. Tuberville has been outspoken about the importance of carrying on Charlie’s legacy by educating our young people about the Constitution and our country’s Christian values. He will be joined by Eric and Lara Trump and Benny Johnson in Auburn tonight.

They also discussed the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria. Sen. Tuberville condemned these brutal crimes on the Senate floor last month.

ROBERTS: “A week after its big event at Ole Miss, Turning Point USA is heading to Auburn University in Alabama for its next tour stop. Tonight’s star-studded event will include Eric and Laura Trump. And it comes as Turning Point USA’s CEO and the widow of Charlie Kirk, Erica Kirk, joins Jesse Watters Primetime for an exclusive interview tonight at eight o’clock. Let’s bring in Alabama Republican Senator and former Auburn football head coach, Tommy Tuberville, who will be at tonight’s event.

Coach, good to have you with us tonight. We had this huge event at Ole Miss last week. What are you expecting for tonight? And [just] as importantly, how soon are you leaving D.C.?”

TUBERVILLE: “I’ll leave here about three o’clock, John. But thanks for having me on. It will be phenomenal tonight. They’re already lining up at Auburn. There won’t be enough room. Unfortunately, people will have to stand outside. But hopefully, they can see it somewhere—whether highlights or get the gist of it—but this is a great event.

You know, we had this scheduled back in July. I was going to introduce Charlie Kirk tonight. Unfortunately, we know what happened. It didn’t end up that way, but we’re going to carry Charlie’s legacy on as they already have after the assassination.”

ROBERTS: “Yeah. And in terms of carrying on his legacy, […] certainly Erica Kirk certainly is the driving force behind that now. We’ve mentioned that she’s going to be on [with] Jesse Watters tonight with an exclusive interview. There’s a really touching moment in that interview when Jesse talked to her and asked her about wanting to see Charlie when he was in the hospital. I believe he had already passed at that point. And she talked about the strength of his character in that moment and where she thought that the whole movement was headed. Listen to this.”

[…]

ROBERTS: “I mean, what an extraordinary moment that was. That the fact that even in death, Charlie Kirk was saying, ‘You’ve launched this in ways that you couldn’t even believe.’”

TUBERVILLE: “Yeah. I’m looking forward to seeing that interview, John, and also watching this [movement] grow. This is a movement that this country needs. And we need it, as you saw, I just saw some figures that you had on the election last night. We got a lot of young people in this country that absolutely are looking at this country in a different light. They’re looking at socialism, communism, and they’re looking at free stuff. All those things that go along with what they want to do, but I think Turning Point is going to have a huge impact on a lot of individuals tonight, last week, and weeks to come.”

ROBERTS: “Yeah. I mean, no question. When you look at the number of chapters that have been requested at universities and high schools across the country and the number that are being set up, it really is quite incredible.

I wanted to ask you about another issue that has really come to the forefront. We did an interview last week with a fellow from Open Doors USA, which is a Christian organization that’s monitoring what many people are calling a genocide of Christians in Nigeria. Immediately after that interview, President Trump weighed in, saying that he was going to declare Nigeria to be a country of particular concern and saying that he would send the U.S. military in to take care of Boko Haram if the Nigerian government didn’t do anything about it. Here’s what Karoline Leavitt said about it in the briefing yesterday.”

[…]

ROBERTS: “The Nigerian government, in the wake of what the President said last week, denied any notion of there being a genocide against Christians, saying it’s just merely reflective of the rampant violence across the country. But you’re on the [Senate] Armed Services Committee. Would you support U.S. troops going into Nigeria?”

TUBERVILLE: “You bet I would—62,000 Christians killed in Nigeria, 100,000 killed in Africa, 18,000 churches burned. Now there’s a lot of evidence there, and that’s probably an underestimate, John. But we cannot allow this to happen to people that can’t defend themselves. It’s just absolutely insane. If we need to get involved in something like this, President Trump could end that in a heartbeat. This wouldn’t be like going into Russia or China or North Korea or Iran. This would be going and helping innocent people that would be able to take back over their country. It’s a shame something like this happened, but we can’t overlook it. We can’t underestimate it.”

ROBERTS: “Well, hopefully, the Nigerian government will come to the table on this and come to the plate, but it doesn’t look like they’ve got any inkling of doing that at least now.

Safe travels, Senator, and we’ll see it tonight at Auburn.”

TUBERVILLE: “Thank you, John.”

ROBERTS: “Appreciate it.”

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP and Aging Committees.
