ATMORE, AL – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) released the following statement after attending the grand opening of the Coastal Growers peanut shelling plant in Atmore, AL:
“It is great to see the vision for Coastal Growers come to life,” said Senator Tuberville. “In less than a year, this facility has broken ground, opened its doors, employed Alabamians, harnessed the passion for agriculture in the region, and started shipping peanuts across the nation and world. That is no small feat, especially given the pressures of the pandemic on supply chains. I congratulate all who put in the long hours to make this possible, and look forward to the continued success of this great Alabama-based business.“
“The economic impact that this facility will produce is immeasurable for our grower owners and the communities that they live in, the city of Atmore, and the state of Alabama,” says Dirk Lindsey, President/CEO of Coastal Growers LLC. “We have the opportunity to provide affordable plant-based protein and help feed the world, while affecting the American rural economy in a positive way.“
Coastal Growers currently employs over 60 Alabamians full-time with plans for rapid expansion in the next year. Accounting for part-time and indirect job creation, such as construction workers, contractors, and supply chain workers the employment impact nearly doubles. In total, about 200 farmers came together as a grower owned LLC to provide funding and resources for the facility. The Alabama Department of Agriculture opened an on-site regional office at Coastal Growers contributing to additional jobs and resources.
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
