Tuberville Honors Kevin Harkey of Huntsville as August “Veteran of the Month”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) released a video honoring U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Kevin Harkey of Huntsville as the August “Veteran of the Month.” Harkey is a 31-year-veteran, with deployments in Honduras, Iraq, and Kosovo.

Excerpts from Senator Tuberville’s remarks can be found below, and his complete remarks can be found here.

“Our veterans embody the ideals of ‘team’ and ‘family’ that are taught in our great military. For Command Sergeant Major Kevin Harkey, he shares these family values with those who need it most in his community.”

“His passion for mentoring the next generation prompted him to draft a ‘study guide’ for upcoming soldiers on the 30th Anniversary of his enlistment.”

“Another principle he teaches is the importance of ‘being present’ for those you are leading. It’s no surprise that Kevin still demonstrates these leadership qualities, even since his retirement from the military. In his free time, you can find him mentoring students at local community centers with his Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He serves as a consistent role model for teenagers ages 10-17, many of whom come from single-parent homes.”

Senator Tuberville recognizes a different Alabama veteran each month for their service and contribution to their community. Constituents can nominate an Alabama veteran and submit their information to Senator Tuberville’s office for consideration by emailing press_office@tuberville.senate.gov

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
