WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) released the following statement on Xavier Becerra’s nomination for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):
“To help our country recover from a pandemic, HHS needs a leader with relevant health care experience to run the department. Xavier Becerra has none. In his time as California Attorney General, Becerra has shown a remarkable disregard and disdain for the religious freedoms of millions of Americans. He’s supported taxpayer funding for abortions and opposes partial-birth abortion bans. And he has advocated for Medicare for All, which would eliminate the insurance plans of millions of hardworking Americans. The American people deserve someone who will help get us through this pandemic and won’t impose their radical views on the country – Becerra is not that person and I cannot support his nomination.”
